Sales of electric vehicles in South Africa surged in the first nine months of 2022
According to the report of South African independent media website on November 21, the latest data of the South African Automobile Commerce Commission (Naamsa) showed that the sales of new energy vehicles in South Africa reached 3092 in the first nine months of 2022, an increase of 245.1% compared with the same period last year, of which the sales of 13 industry brands in the third quarter increased by 29.1% to 953.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa issued a green paper on the introduction of new energy vehicles in May 2021. Naamsa said that South Africa's automobile industry is waiting for the government to make a clear statement on the results of the proposal to stimulate demand and manufacture new energy vehicles and their parts. In addition, Naamsa pointed out that in the third quarter, South Africa's car production and new car sales increased by 49.2% and 16.9% year on year respectively. Meanwhile, South Africa's car exports increased by 92.2% year on year in the third quarter. In the same period last year, the car exports were affected by force majeure due to network attacks at Durban Port.
